About
Abdul is a PhD student in Applied Science at Saint Mary’s University (Halifax,
Nova Scotia, Canada) where he is currently researching and working on environmental stewardship in small-scale fisheries in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Abdul has a background in marine ecology, conservation, and fisheries, having previous completed a MSc in Marine Science and a BSc in Aquatic Environmental Science & Conservation Science, both from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He previously worked as a Marine Program Coordinator at the Wildlife Conservation Society in Tanzania and served as a Fisheries and Marine Conservation Officer at the Marine Conservation Unit of the Department of Fisheries Development, Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries in Zanzibar, Tanzania. His other research interests include applied marine and coastal ecology, economics and valuation of coastal and marine ecosystems, integrated coastal zone management, chemical oceanography, applied marine geology and applied physical oceanography.
