Frejhan Jn Baptiste

Frejhan Jn Baptiste is a fourth year Environmental Science honors student currently attending Saint Mary’s University (Halifax, NS.). Her honors research focuses on the resilience of beaches in her island home of Saint Lucia (W.I.) and their capacity to respond to various stabilization methods in light of various climate and anthropogenic driven sea level rise projections.

Growing up in a Caribbean island, Frejhan developed a profound appreciation and connection to nature. By witnessing firsthand, the changes made in her natural environment not only by natural disasters, but also through rapid anthropogenic development without public consultation, her awareness of environmental challenges has fuelled her passion for conservation. Throughout her studies, Frejhan has enhanced her interest in sustainable development with emphasis on climate driven adaptation methods.

In 2019, Frejhan was fortunate enough to learn from experts at Conservation International in Fiji during their development of the Lau Seascape Strategy- a community conservation focused project. This project allowed her to view conservation and environmental efforts from a different lens, centred around benefiting and expanding livelihoods of the community.

She aims to further expand her knowledge and skills in sustainable development, environmental conservation and climate adaptation with an emphasis on small island developing states (SIDS) after graduation.
