10 Dec The Power of Community
As we move along toward the end of this very tough year, we at the Community Conservation Research Network would like to celebrate an enduring feature of society: the power of local communities, the world over, to make a positive difference. For those in the communities. For the environment. For more sustainable livelihoods. For a better future. We are highlighting here 3 key CCRN video resources that are filled with this positive perspective. We hope these resources may inspire and be useful to communities, governments and organizations, as well as providing teachers in schools, colleges and universities with material for 2021 classes.

Sustainable Futures: Communities in Action is a full-length, freely-available documentary that made its world premiere on World Environment Day 2020. The film visits four communities around the world, each a story of local action and local solutions, each a story of ‘the power of community’. The actions these communities are taking, the solutions they are finding, can inspire a way forward for all of us. Visit the CCRN website to view the film, the trailer, a panel discussion video, and an accompanying Educators’ Guide. We hope the film will inspire a celebration of the power of community in envisioning and creating sustainable futures.

Communities Linking Conservation and Livelihoods

Each of the two 5-minute CCRN animations explores how local communities take action to conserve the natural environment they depend on, and sustain their economies and livelihoods. The first looks at the experiences of two communities, in different parts of the world, to restore ecosystems and diversify economies – building sustainability for current and future generations. The second animation focuses on ingredients of success for local communities in environmental conservation – “lessons learned” that can be relevant around the world. Both animations point out how communities can successfully sustain ecosystems and livelihoods, especially when governments and others provide the right support.
